Deadlines

I have been cramming to finish an art quilt before the deadline. I got it done and thought I would share it here, with only my closest friends. Whats so unique about this quilt is that it is done all in pencils, different kinds of pencils, watercolor, colored pencils etc. So basically I colored the quilt. This one I did in a faux marbling technique to mimic a marble floor. I am sure I will get some raised eyebrows from the traditional quilters. LOL

what a beautiful quilt. You wrote you used pencils and such, did you draw directly on the fabric and then quilt around it ? was it on cotton ?

I compiled different designs and had my girlfriend quilt it on her computerized longarm quilting machine then I colored it. You can do it either way, quilt first or quilt after. I would just worry about smudging or dirting the quilt with too much handling to do it after.

Thanks, I am pleased with it. It is on cotton but I am sure you could use other fabrics. I also sealed it so its a bit stiff. I am playing with different mediums to find one that works the best. So far I have my favorites and will be teaching this as a new technique. So far the shops have been really excited. I am going to teach a much simplier version, no fauxing. More along the lines of just an art applique look. I am calling it that too. If you use colored pencils they smudge very easily so you have to take special care not to ruin the light background fabric.

Desiree, you are so artistic genius. May be you can do a WIP of it in the future. This is stunning. I am sure quilt people will raise their eyebrows in a good way when they see your work.

Desiree, you might want to check out this book
"Mother Earth and Her Children" from Amazon.com too. This book is about a quilted children illustration. I received the book for my daughter and was amazed by how a person spent a year to do a quilt that tell so much story.
