- What draws you to the fiber arts? Why do you work the way you do?

Today it all about ME!!! Yeah. My name is Desiree Habicht and in Session One I will be teaching you how to use colored pencils, my favorite being Inktense pencils to create a beautiful small art quilt. I will also be showing you some techniques for textures, resists and other ways you can use these pencils in your fiber art!!

2. Tell us about your studio! Where in the world is it? Is it clean or messy? is it hidden away or out in the open?
My studio is a converted bedroom in my home but I also have other work areas around the house. For instance, part of the garage is a cutting room, part of my bedroom is a sketching and painting place, my closet hold much of my fabric lines and the guest room is full of art! LOL My husband says the house is really my studio! My actual studio room is usually in a bit of a mess. Since its a bedroom I can close it off from viewing and leave things out as I work. This way if I can work for a short time it is ready for me to pop in and create!
3. What is your favorite color and why?
HMMM, that is hard since I love all color! I think I love greens and oranges. I think of nature when I see them, fall, holidays, all the good things for me!
4. What is your least favorite thing to do when you're working on a piece?
Cook, clean, answer the phone or go to bed! I just want to keep working until I want to stop
5. If you could fly where would you go?
I would fly across the country and view all the amazing National parks from the air!
6. Tell us about the class you're teaching in The Fiber Art Connection. What do you hope your students will learn from this?

So my question to you is what is your favorite season to color? Fall with its rich oranges and reds? Spring with its fresh pinks and lime greens, Summer with its hot yellows and blues or winter with its greys, whites and purples?

Autumn is my favorite.
I love reds and red orange though I ususally combine them with blues. Yellowy greens are becoming a new favorite, so I'm a combination of seasons. Thanks for sharing your thoughts about creating with fiber art.
Thanks for introducing me to Inktense pencils. I use them on fabric and to add color to my Zen doodles. I love the vibrant colors and how well they blend.

I love the blues and purples - hard techies since I love all the colors - not much of the grays and beiges though!!
The fiber connection sounds awesome.
Because winter is so long where I live, I'm tempted to say spring is the best time of year. It is so full of bursting colors. Still, I enjoy the soft grays and muted Browns of winter, too. Every season entices me to respond, but I think I'll say green/yellows are my favorite.
It would be fall for me with the Reds, oranges, golds
This week my gardens bloomed -- roses are red and peach, cactus and succulents are orange and green, lavender is, well, lavender. And then there's the irises, evergreens and other purple flowers. So for now, I'd say spring . . . I'm sure I'll change my mind as summer rolls in
I'm intrigued by your colored pencil techniques, but I can't draw to save my life. Is there any hope for me? Also, in the next few weeks I will be returning to our home which has been remodeled and brought back to its Spanish Revival style. I'm looking for someone who can show me how to make a clamshell quilt. Would any of the artisans you have gathered have this expertise?

Hi Desiree... what a wonderful post and great to get to know you...online to start! Thanks for all you are doing for all of us. I am an avid user of Inktense products on fabric...love the blocks and the pencils and the way they give me control over my work.

My favorite season is autumn. In my part of the world we don't really get "fall colors", but I love the coolness in the air and all the signs of fall harvest. I am glad that people are experimenting with inktense on fabric because they are very cool pencils. Thanks for your interesting post.
My favorite season is spring, but I don't like the pastel colors. I'm too bold for that! Everything I make turns purple and green no matter where it starts. I've been working on other colors. Fall is not me. Winter, hmmmm, maybe. Summer, dunno. I guess colorwise winter is it. In "Color Me Beautiful" I'm a winter, so it shouldn't be a surprise.
Fall
I think Fall is my favorite. I just love the hot pinky orange that some maple leaves become. Those paired with warm yellows of birches and aspens and the dark reds of the pin oaks. Then you must add in those leaves that stay green...all gorgeous.

Spring with it's beautiful flowers and bright green grass is probably my favorite.
I love all colors depending on my mood...I like to change things up often...my friends never know what they will find when they visit me..LOL...I have never used pencils in my art so am looking forward to learning a new technique!
I like fall, the crispness of the air. the colors of the leaves change daily and give you different views. what I do miss is burning leaves, the smell and the different colors of the flames. Our fire dept. doesn't allow open fires.

I would have said spring is my favorite to color Until I actually began my season art pieces and started with fall's autumn glow, progressing to Whispering Into Winter when the glow fades to gray and I LOVE that piece. Somehow, spring is still in my mind and not on fabric yet. Hmm. So maybe my favorite is actually "Autumn" and oh, how fun it would be to win the prize basket. Thank you to all of you for offering it.
I too love Fall, the colors and crisp air. I have bought inktense,but have not used them much yet. You are an inspiration to what they can do.
I like spring with all the colorful flowers. I take hundreds of photos and love using paint and thread to create my art quilts.

I like the colors of summer, when a lot of flowers are in full bloom. However I love the spring daffodils with many shades of yellow and orange!

I love the colors of fall. I would say fall is my favorite season to color even though spring is my favorite season.
Spring colors are my favorite- I think of the yellow of daffodils and a variety of fresh greens.
